Maintaining broad administrative and financial autonomy, it plays an active role in advancing the field of International Relations in Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was founded in 1989 on the initiative of Professor Dimitris Konstas. Since then, it has become a point of reference for research, education, and academic dialogue on international and European affairs, while strengthening partnerships with institutions abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>IDIS aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Produce and disseminate high-quality, original research with international impact.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support public policy formulation through evidence-based analysis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote academic dialogue in Greece and beyond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Research Focus<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Institute\u2019s research activity is concentrated in key areas such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Greek foreign policy and the development of relevant strategic proposals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analysis of international developments with a focus on geopolitical and geoeconomic dynamics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greece\u2019s position in the European integration process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Theoretical foundations of international political analysis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International law, with particular emphasis on the Law of the Sea, environmental protection, international justice, and human rights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Education and Academic Support<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>IDIS contributes to academic development through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support for the Master\u2019s programs \u201cInternational Relations and Strategic Studies\u201d and \u201cStrategic Security Studies\u201d (in collaboration with the Hellenic National Defence College \u2013 HNDC).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Junior Researcher Program, offering undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to develop their research skills by participating in Institute-led projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Educational Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To promote continuous learning and outreach, IDIS organizes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Training Seminars<\/strong> on strategy, foreign policy, and global governance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>American Studies Seminar (<\/strong>since 1995), in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Olympia Summer Academy<\/strong> (since 2002), in collaboration with the Navarino Network.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Greek-Turkish Young Leaders Symposium<\/strong> (since 2014).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Thucydides Summer Seminar<\/strong>, focusing on geopolitics and strategy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Research and Public Policy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>IDIS strives to bridge academic research with applied policy by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Organizing the annual <strong>Athens Security Forum<\/strong>, in partnership with international research centers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actively participating in public discourse through articles, analyses, and media interventions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Public Engagement<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the goal of raising awareness and encouraging public participation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Institute hosts open events such as seminars, conferences, roundtables, and book presentations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It publishes the \u201cIDIS Library\u201d and \u201cContemporary East Asia\u201d series, as well as collective volumes, aiming to serve both academic dialogue and public reflection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who We Are The Institute of International Relations (IDIS) is a University Research Institute affiliated with Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences and operates under the Department of International and European Studies.
