What is public diplomacy?

The discussion with Dr Marios Efthimiopolos & Ino Afendouli @PrimeAnalaysis @StrategyInternational gravitates around the discussion of public diplomacy as a method of stakeholder’s consultation and a decision-making process. It is a discussion about Public Diplomacy @NATO from a practitioners’ perspective.

Public Diplomacy in NATO is about engaging public stakeholders both in building up the image of the organisation and in advocating for the instrumentality of individual operations. As a union of democratic countries public diplomacy is a dimension of the organisation’s accountability.

Public diplomacy is also about community-building in the foreign policy and national security communities, which is a mission also central to the Institute of Strategic and Development Studies (@IDIS). Going into the substance of current debate within this community, there is a discussion over the parallel processes of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine and more broadly the distinct processes of consensus-building in NATO and the EU. The discussion does not shy away from key issues such as the lack of consensus, enlargement, or indeed divisive issues such as the situation in the Middle East.
