Dr. Despina Afentouli is a journalist, sociologist and researcher with professional work experience in media (BBC, CNN, Cosmos FM, LGR, BronxNet, The National Herald-to name a few), academic institutions (such as the Open University of Cyprus, Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Technological Educational Institute of Ionian Islands, University of Wolverhampton/College of Professional Journalism Athens, Queens College/City University of New York) and public sector (Ministry of Education of Greece, Region of Attica, Greece).
Dr. Afentouli holds a PhD from the Department of Sociology of the Panteion University of Athens (“The position of the British Press in the Greek-Turkish relations, 1955-1965”, doctoral archival research in London, published also as a book), a Master’s degree in International Journalism from City, University of London, specialized in Europe Union (The Annan Plan for Cyprus), and a Bachelor’s degree in International and European Studies and Translating/Interpreting (German-English), at the University of Salford and The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germany (The Battle of Crete, 1941).
Dr. Afentouli has participated as a speaker, co-ordinator and organizer of educational seminars and cultural events. Dr. Afentouli is currently a postdoc researcher on how the American press portrays the recent refugee/immigration crisis in Greece.
